Rainbow Girls spent their first 5 years together playing as a fully electric band, but since mid 2016 they have begun to play more frequently as an acoustic trio. They recently recorded an album of this material on their property in the countryside north of San Francisco.

" 'American Dream' was one of those songs that spilled out pretty fast. I was messing around with a new finger-picking progression and just kept muttering phrases to myself that had been marinating. It's a song to bring up the dissonance between the Dream this country has been selling for decades and all the folks trapped under the weight of money who aren't able to access it due to oppressive systems of power. People who are told their lives aren't worth anything through the actions of government, police, and inaction of the justice system. Other's experiences are not my stories to tell, but the desire for security, love, family, the money-related fear, grief, and hope for eventual happiness can be shared by everyone on some level." - Caitlin Gowdey

“The news is something we all keep a pretty close eye on, despite how hard it can be to stomach. One song in particular (‘Cameron Sterling’) was actually directly inspired by listening to and coping with the news. We were in the van last July, listening to Democracy Now!’s report about the killing of Alton Sterling by Baton Rouge police. This news source is one we all value and respect greatly, but I couldn’t really take in anything anyone was saying once they played a sound clip of Alton Sterling’s wife addressing the public/media for the first time. And then I really couldn’t even hear what she was saying either, for the pain and grief of their 15 year old son, Cameron, crying beside her, struck me so hard I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get it out of my head." - Erin Chapin
